Yes, renting a car in Mauritius was really easy!
When we landed, there were a few rental desks right at the airport. We had booked online before the trip, so picking it up took just 10-15 minutes.

They accepted my regular driving license since it was in English. The roads were decent, and driving was fun—just remember they drive on the left side, like in the UK. At first it felt a bit weird, but I got used to it quickly.

Having a car gave us so much freedom! We could stop at beaches, eat at small local places, and even take little detours. Just be careful on narrow roads and keep an eye out for scooters and buses.
