I have recently been to Mauritius and these are some places worth visiting and learn about Mauritius’ history –
- Mauritius Postal Museum: Displays the history of postal services with stamps, equipment, and historical documents.
- Blue Penny Museum: Houses rare Blue and Red Penny stamps and showcases Mauritius’ history and culture.
- Château de Labourdonnais: A restored colonial mansion offering insights into French colonial history.
- Eureka House: A museum in Moka showcasing the colonial lifestyle with antique furniture and artifacts.
- National History Museum: Located in Port Louis, covers natural and cultural history, including paleontology and ethnography.
- La Citadelle: A historic fort overlooking Port Louis from a hill.
- Martello Tower Museum: In La Preneuse, focuses on maritime history, including piracy and naval warfare.
- Mahebourg Naval Museum: Highlights naval history, especially the Battle of Grand Port during the Napoleonic Wars.
Hope this helps you.
