Yes, you can visit Aapravasi Ghat for free!
I went there recently during my trip to Mauritius, and it was such a moving experience. It’s in Port Louis, easy to find, and you don’t need to buy a ticket or anything. The place is open from Monday to Saturday (but closed on Sundays and public holidays), and the staff is really kind and helpful.
They also have free guided tours – I joined one, and it helped me understand the stories behind the site. Aapravasi Ghat is where thousands of indentured labourers first arrived from India in the 1800s, and walking through the ruins and seeing the small museum made me appreciate their journey and struggles.
If you’re driving, you can’t park right at the gate, but I found a spot near Caudan Waterfront and walked – it’s just a short distance.
Totally worth the visit, especially if you’re interested in history and culture. And again, yes – it’s absolutely free!
